Stage 3: 2 Night Excursion to Canberra

Dear Parent or Carers,
Year 5 and 6 students are invited to attend an excursion to Canberra in Term 3 Week 5 for 3 days and two nights, from Tuesday 21st August to Thursday 23rd August 2018.
This excursion has been planned to supplement students learning around the history unit ‘Australia as a nation'. They will be learning to identify change and continuity and describe the causes and effects of change on Australian society and develop their skills at applying a variety of skills of historical inquiry and communication. This is integral to their learning in class and will provide extensive background knowledge of Australia's capital.
Students will visit Museum of Democracy, National Museum, Questacon, National Portrait Gallery, Australian War Memorial, Mount Ainslie Lookout, Parliament House and the Royal Australian Mint, and two night time activities Flip Out and IPlay Belconnen. Each of these activities enables students to acquire new knowledge and participate in experiences to develop their skills in social situations. This will enable them to make clear connections with their classroom learning experiences during term 3.
The total cost of the excursion is $466.00.
This covers:
- Coach travel with air conditioning and seatbelts.
- 2 nights accommodation at the Tall Trees Canberra
- Entry to Questacon Science and Technology Centre, FlipOut and IPlay Belconnen (all other activities are free)
- Day 1 – Dinner (students will need to bring their own lunch and recess on Day 1).
- Day 2 – Breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
- Day 3 - Breakfast, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
All staff members have School Communities Working Together, emergency care, CPR and anaphylaxis training.
To secure your place on this excursion, students must pay a $50.00 deposit before Friday 25th May, 2018. Please complete the permission note below and enclose with payment. Please return envelopes to the front office.
The total payment must be completed by Friday, 3rd August, 2018. To assist with the payment, East Hills Public School will accept instalment payments and upfront payments.
Further information will be sent home once we confirm the students attending.
